is there a way to disable USB ports in BIOS

is there a way to disable USB ports in BIOS?
I have a hardware problem with the USB ports on my inspiron 8200 and I would like to disable them.
Can it be done in BIOS or by programming the Northbridge (or whatever it is on this system)??

If so, HOW?

thanks

Well, I been there done that, but here it is again.

I can't boot the Dell Diag CD (it stops after the first line of the CD driver install). I can boot Linux on CD at least to run a diagnostic on it and Partition Magic (it installs a different CD driver)
I can't get past "Setup is starting Windows" on the XP install disk.

I have copied the Dell diags to a CD that will boot (Bart's) and run it. It says I have a memory problem with the USB ports.-didn't return the correct error code.
that is the ONLY problen shown.
