Is Intel Rapid Start useless on XPS 15 (9530) if HDD swapped for SSD

Hi all,

I just purchased a new XPS 15 9530 (my 4th XPS computer now, love them) and I have a question related to Intel Rapid Start technology. My model is the lower one, so it came with the 512 GB HDD and the 32 GB mSata SSD cache drive.  I had a very nice Intel 512 GB SSD in my old computer so I wanted to swap it into this (another reason I just bought the lower model).  So I very successfully cloned the HDD that came with my new XPS onto the Intel SSD and installed it. Everything install, works, and boots perfectly. That is a win in my book.

So here's the million dollar question.  This new XPS came with Intel Rapid Start and  Intel Rapid Storage technology. It worked pretty well when I had the HDD in there with the 32 GB cache drive.  Now I'm questioning if it's useless technology since my primary boot drive is a 512 GB SSD.  So here are my questions:

1) Is Intel Rapid Start and Rapid Storage useless now? If so, should I disable/uninstall them?

2) What about my 32 GB mSata drive, since I'm not using it for a Rapid Start drive anymore, does that free it up to just use for anything? I know only 8 GB of the 32 GB is visible at the moment, but I'm thinking I could just format it and use it as a 2nd drive. If that's the case, maybe I will just buy a larger mSATA and just swap it out and have two nice SSD drives :-)

Thanks for the help guys!!

I have the same question. (Dell XPS 14 same set up)

Basically I think the Intel Rapid Start is not needed anymore if you change to a SSD

but

the Intel Rapid storage could still be useful?

Dell XPS 14 500GB HDD zu SSD 512GB Umbau, die integrierte 32gb mSATA SSD bleibt erhalten.

1. Ist Intel Rapid Start noch notwendig/nützlich?

2. Ist Intel Rapid Storage noch notwendig/nützlich?
