Inspiron 14 7000 series Subwoofer

Hi,

This model has a subwoofer built in. The only way the subwoofer works is if i make it the default speaker but then the normal speakers wont work. Isnt the subwoofer supposed to work with the normal speakers?

Hello. Is it the Inspiron 14 7437 model? That model's documentation shows it having one pair of stereo speakers but no sub. If it is a different model please reply back with the full name.

You could try installing a fresh copy of the Realtek audio driver from your laptop's support page, or you could try using the Windows native audio driver. The support page of the Inspiron 14 7437 model is here.

Sorry but I'm having some trouble tonight in locating its support page. You probably have it through your service tag anyway, but if not you can get all of the drivers and manuals from this html page:

http://downloads.dell.com/published/pages/inspiron-14-7447-laptop.html

The only Realtek audio driver that has been released for that model is there -- for Windows 8.1 and 7. If it still doesn't work after a fresh installation you could try the Windows native audio driver, but I'm not sure if it supports the subwoofer or not.

1. Open the Device Manager (type devmgmt.msc in the search box).
2. Expand the "Sound, video & game controllers" and right click on "Realtek High Definition Audio".
3. Select to "Update Driver Software".
4. Click on "Browse my computer for driver software".
5. Click "Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer".
6. Put a check in the box "Show compatible hardware" if not already checked.
7. In the list of devices, click "High Definition Audio" (the native driver).
8. Click "Next".
9. On the Update Driver Warning box, click "Yes" (install the driver).
10. Restart the laptop if prompted. If not prompted, then no need to restart.
[To get back to the Realtek driver,  do it again but reverse the names in steps 1 and 6.]

You could also obtain a driver directly from the Realtek site. Go to the Realtek downloads selection page. www.realtek.com.tw/downloads
On the page click on "High Definition Audio Codecs".
Check "I accept" and then "next".
In the column named "Description" find the file named README. That has the instructions for installing or updating.
In the column named "Download", click on one of the server names to download the readme file.
Go back to the column named "Description" and select your operating system (and whether it is 32bits or 64bits) from the top 2 choices in the list.
In the column named "Download", click on one of the server names to download the driver.

If the sub does not work right with any of the drivers then you might want to contact tech support.
