How to install microphone array?

Hey guys,

i just bought an inspiron 15 3000 series and downloaded webcam central but there is one problem. The webcam works fine with it but for using those audio effects i have to install another microphone. It only shows realtek high definition audio but it won't work with this one. Could someone explain to me how to install the microphone array driver? (windows 8)

Or does webcam central work with another mic? If yes please tell me so

Hello. If you just bought then your model might be the Inspiron 15 3558 that came out in early 2015.

The Inspiron 15 3558 does not have a microphone array. A microphone array is dual mics, but the 3558 model only has a single mic. Some older Dell models had mic arrays and you might have seen the instructions for one of those other models.

When you got the laptop from the factory the mic should have worked right away without the need for you to download anything to make it work.

Unplug any mic from the external mic jack. Open the Sound properties (Control Panel>Sound) and select the Recording tab. Make the Realtek mic the default device. Open Windows Sound Recorder and make a test recording. If the mic does not make a good recording then it might be defective.

Here is a screen shot of what your Recording tab should look like. Your model will not have a "microphone array" in the list of devices. The "Microphone - Realtek High Definition Audio" selects the laptop's built-in mic unless there is an external mic plugged into the external jack socket.
