How to copy files to another notebook
I've over 2 GB of emails (OUTLOOK and Windows 2000) on a Dell Latitude CPX that I wanted to transfer onto a new DELL notebook (Windows XP) that I wanted to order. In the past, I haven't had any success in copying OUTLOOK emails to another PC using floppy disks. I was trying to copy them a group at a time (combined files of under 1.44 MB) so they would fit in one disk.
Please advise as to:
1) What cables that I need to order to connect these two notebooks for the file transfer?
2) What software that I need to do the transfer?
I want to order what are needed along with the Dell that I wanted to order. Thank you very much!

The easiest solution would be to use a PCMCIA network card on the older Latitude, and use the built-in ethernet (network) card on the new notebook. Both of your OSes have networking support included with them, so the only other thing you should need would be a cross-over cable, or a couple of "patch cables" and a switch (or hub) to connect the computers to. I regularly move files between my C840, and my wife's C800, and our desktop systems across my home network.
I know one person who swears by the "home networking" that uses your home electrical wiring.

You should export your Outlook data. This takes everything you specify and puts it all in one .PST file.
The file size depends on how much data needs to be exported. This is a good time to clean out old
messages, contacts, sent items, and deleted items. Once you have the exported .PST file you can
use a little USB drive to copy/transfer the file. In Outlook, see "Import and Export" under the File menu.
