Fingerprint scanner steals keyboard focus on login

I've picked up a few Vostro 3360s for our employees.  One minor annoyance I noticed on all of them is that after hitting ctrl-alt-del for the login, it gives you the last logged on user, other user and fingerprint options.  Normally, you can hit enter to pick the last user and then enter your password.  Or arrow over to other user.  But with the fingerprint login option enabled, the keyboard focus is gone and no combination of keystrokes will let you in.  You either have to use the fingerprint scanner or mouse/trackpad to click on something first.  After clicking on anything, the keyboard focus comes back and you can type as needed.

Anyone know of any fix for this?

Hi Billy Buerger,

In this situation you might have to disable the finger print reader in BIOS.

• Press F2 on start up to enter BIOS screen

• Go to advanced tab and disable Fingerprint reader.

Refer to the attached picture.

Well, the users who normally use the laptops may like having the fingerprint reader option.  But I don't want to put my fingerprint in there just for when I'm doing maintenance or updates on the laptop.  So I usually just use the keyboard.  Every time I run into this it annoys me.  But not worth disabling the feature completely.

Hi Billy Buerger,

There’s really nothing much that we could do apart from disabling the device.

We have a couple of Lenovo laptops around the office as well.  Just tried out one of those with their fingerprint reader and the login window works just fine.  I can use the keyboard to login or use the finger print reader.  No stealing of focus requiring a mouse click.  So as expected, it's not that it can't be done.  Just seems like a bad implementation on these vostros.
