Fingerprint Logon no longer working for website logons

Dell Studio Laptop (PP33L), new in Dec 2008. Fingerprint Logon no longer working for existing website logons. They have been added and used over the past 3 months without problems (Fingerprint logon to computer itself remains fine). On each logon website, i.e. email provider, when swiping, the blue logo shows a green tickbox as usual but the email logon and password fields are not automatically completed any more.
Creating a new fingerprint logon for new/additional websites also no longer working (when swiping finger, blue logo appears but when clicking on "Create new logon..." , nothing happens/ no field opens to fill in text).

Any ideas?
