external hard disk NOT detected in windows 7

Hi All,

I have an hard disk from my old HCL laptop(120GB,SATA,year of manufacture-2007,make-western digital) which i want to use as external hard disk.I tried connecting it in other laptop having windows XP,its detecting and working fine.

But when i connect to my new DELL inspiron 14 with windows 7,its undetected and doesnt search for any driver also.It doesnt detect it and not present in "my computer" or "disk management".

Do i need to update any driver for it?Please suggest me a possible solution so that i can use it as external hard disk.

Make sure you're using a dual-tap USB cable or a powered hub -- a single USB port very often won't power an external drive.

Thanks a lot for the reply,i could solve my problem with this.I didnt know that both taps of other end of USB  need to be connected to laptop. Now its working fine and detecting.
