Cannot boot Windows 7 install DVD in UEFI mode (Inspiron 15R - 5520)
I received my Dell Inspiron 15R - 5520 laptop and am attempting to set it up to perform a UEFI boot to a Windows 7 (64 bit) installation. I am using bios version A11 which is the latest available.
If I use legacy, I am able to boot fine to the Installation DVD and install/use the system. If I use UEFI (non-secure boot), it will freeze during the boot process for a long period of time. I do not ever get to the GUI to attempt installation. I have tried clearing the disk partitions using diskpart -> clean to ensure it is not due to having GPT vs MBR and have also tried changing the SATA adapter to ATA vs AHCI.
Alternately, I am able to boot to, and install Windows 8 RTM in UEFI mode.
Before I get a lot of responses of "Don't use UEFI", the reason I purchased this laptop was for the purpose of dual booting between windows 8 and windows 7 for development purposes, and require the use of secureboot to properly test the software I am developing. If this laptop is not able to run Windows 7 in UEFI mode, I will need to return it and select an alternate vendor.

Hello.
I am very interested in, how to enable EFI boot on Inspiron 5520?
I did not found any option in BIOS, only standart BIOS MBR mode.
Also where to get A11 BIOS? on site i cannot download it - file not found all the time!.
Thanks.

Srange - i don't have Boot List Option in Boot section of Bios?!? O_o
Maybe it's because of old BIOS version?

cah4e3:
The A11 bios image can be downloaded from www.dell.com/.../inspiron-15r-5520
To enable EFI, press F2 during boot, using the arrow keys press the right arrow key until "boot" is selected. Press the down arrow key until "Boot List Option" is selected. Press Enter and select "UEFI". Optionally, arrow up to "Load Legacy Option Rom" and press enter, set to disabled.
Windows 7 does not support Secure Boot, so make sure this is disabled (Windows 8 does support this).
I contacted Dell support on this yesterday and they are escalating up to second tier support. It is obviously a BIOS issue as the same CD works for "legacy" boot, and Windows 8 works great with UEFI.
I have a hunch it has something to do with the Video adapter (mine is the HD4000).

Ok, managed to install Windows 7 with UEFI-boot, first boot went OK, but after and till now - it freezes on Windows Logo.
I somwhere was reading that this is problem with hibernation.

OK! I let DELL recommend the DELL updates for my Express Service TAG. I recommended the flash bios upgrade.
I installed it and it, for this time being solved my problem
