Devonei,

Please provide more information about what is going on, when it started, and what you have done so far to troubleshoot the problem.

What system do you have?

What Operating System are you currently running?

Thank you for choosing Dell.

It has Windows XP and I think Office XP. As far as the hinge goes, it just kinda popped out and won't go back in. I thought about duct taping it, except I don't think that would work very much. I don't know enough about the structural setup of the computer, and I don't have much luck with openening electronics (I always tend to have peices left over), so I didn't want to attempt it.

I had included all that plus a picture in my original message, but all that seems to have disappeared.

Its an Inspirion 4100, P3 1 GHz, 256Mb RAM. Its the stock model. Anyway, here is a picture of the break:

This hinge is for the Inspiron 4000 and 4100 model.  You can find it on EBAY.  Search for Inspiron Hinge. There will be a full page of Hinges. This one can be found towards the bottom of the page listed at Inspiron 4000 Latitude 600 right hinge.

This is a very common hinge to break.   The going price for this on Ebay right now is $9.00 plus shipping.

And why do you say Windows XP Pro would have a different hinge?  I don't see where the software would make a difference. A hinge for a 4100 is a hinge for a 4100 no matter if you have XP Pro, XP Home or any other operating system.  ??????????

They're just ripping on Win XP Pro. I don't know what the difference between Home and Pro is, so I don't know exactly what they're ripping on.

They were just making fun of the OP as the OP reported a cosmetic hardware damage, and went on to describe the OS and the installed programs.
