Does my laptop have one?

According to the Ports & Connections section of the Inspiron 7567 Specifications, your laptop has a headset port. A headset port supports the input of a mono headset mic. The plug of a headset looks like this TRRS plug:

Two of the contacts are for headphones output, one is for mono mic input, and one is the ground. You can get an adapter to convert your stereo (TRS) plug to work in the TRRS headset jack of your laptop, but the input will be mono, not stereo.

You might need to get a usb audio interface that has a dedicated line-in jack.  This Behringer device is an inexpensive example, but you can get better quality for more $.

All true fireberd but I just want to retain as much of the analogue quality of the records, as possible,

I hadn't looked at Focusrite. Even more choice!

Would you like to suggest why you think they are better?

Thanks Jim,

Yes the problem with the headset port is that the input is mono, I wanted stereo.

The Behringer product(s) looks a possibility, pity the simple ones only work up to 48k though.

It seems I might have to bite the bullet and get a more complex/expensive one.

16 bit/44.1Khz is "CD audio quality".  I record 24 bit/44.1Khz and  mixdown to 16 bit/44.1Khz in my recording studio.

48Khz is for audio recordings that will be used with video.

There are many two channel USB connected recording interface units, better than the Behringer.

Focusrite units are popular

Here are some examples from the Sweetwater Music site (where I buy most of my recording gear).

48Khz is used so it can sync with video, otherwise you don't gain anything and it has to be converted for playback in most cases.   My "professional" audio recording interface unit (MOTU 896Mk3 Hybrid) defaulted to 16 bit 44.1Khz when I first installed it.  I had to manually change it to 24 bit.

I mentioned Focusrite as it is very popular.  My backup recording interface unit is a Focusrite 6i6 model.  A lot of British pop music has been recorded with Focusrite equipment (they are a British company).  I referenced Sweetwater music as they provide a "free" 2nd year warranty on nearly all equipment, most others do not.

Thanks Jim,

Peter, if I answered your question, "Does my laptop have [a line-in jack]?", I'd appreciate it if your click the YES button next to "Did this answer your question?"  Thanks.
