ac power wattage and type cannot be determined

The AC power adapter wattage and type cannot be determined.

The battery may not charge.

The system will adjust the performance to match the power available.

I do not get the error to connect a 65 watt adapter like I have seen others post, just the above message. I tried a different ac adapter and I get the same message. I have master reset my laptop and the error continues. The laptop shows plugged in, not charging. The charge light indicator on the laptop does not light up if I have the battery and charger connected. However, if I remove the battery the laptop will still turn on, I have to hit F1 to get past the adapter error message, and with the battery removed the charging indicator will light up. Still shows plugged in, not charging and the laptop runs very slow due to this error message. I went into the bios and it says the adapter type is unknown on both adapters that I have tried. The battery health says excellent. Please help.

Also I am unable to update the BIOS as the battery is now down to 1%

Hi,

I would like you to set the BIOS to defaults and check for issue resolution. Please follow the steps mentioned below to load the BIOS to defaults.

  1. Reboot the computer.
  2. When prompted during POST, press the key to enter the setup screen.
  3. On the System Setup screen, press the key.
  4. Press the key on Yes to Load Optimized Defaults and restart the computer.

Also, we will need to determine if the issue is with the AC adapter or Battery. We will have to check the status of the adapter in the BIOS; if the adapter is not detected properly the system will continue to receive power but will not charge the battery. Please follow the steps mentioned below to check if the adapter is detected properly.

  1. Start the computer by pressing the power button
  2. Press the F2 key 2-3 times you will now be on the BIOS screen.
  3. Under the Main Tab look for the option that says AC Adapter Type
If the Adapter Type says Unknown or None with the adapter plugged in.
  4. Reconnect the adapter to the machine and if the status now shows as Unknown then the AC Adapter needs to be replaced.

Also, I would suggest you to run a thorough test on the battery. You can download Support assist from the link below and run the PC CHECKUP on Battery to check for issues
