AC Power Adapter Light Turns off When Plugged Into Laptop

My Inspiron 1520 has no power to the system.  I have used multiple AC power adapters, and the same problem occurs: the light on the adapter turns off when I plug it into the laptop.  It is as if a short in the computer blows a fuse in the AC adapter.  Does anybody know of a simple solution to this problem?  I have tried to remove the battery and plug it in, but that did not work.  I cannot get any lights on the laptop turn on, so I am fearing this is a motherboard issue.

To go with this problem, my service tag has rubbed off the sticker, so I have no way of contacting support.  Is there any way of retrieving the service tag on a dead laptop?  Any help here is appreciated.

Thanks,

The service tag number is on your Dell invoice as well.  This is indeed a faulty system board - you will need to replace the board.
