AC apadter doesn't fit - incorrect info on Dell site

Hello!

I bought AC adapter 450-ABFS for my Inspiron 5558. Dell site claims that it is compatible with this model (link) so I ordered it delivery from other city.

But when package arrived I was surprised that the adapter does not fit the given model of the laptop. The problem is the plug - it is much larger than the connector of the laptop.

I attach the photos of the connectors: on the left is the connector from the old adapter, on the right - from the new one, which does not fit the laptop.

Why does the Dell website contain incorrect information? And what do I do with a purchased adapter that does not suit me?

Call and have the adapter exchanged - or you can use a barrel adapter like this

What is the part number on the AC adapter that you originally had?

On the new ones Dell OEM being sold on eBay, the part number X9RG3

Thanks for the answer. I bought this adapter and connected the charger to the laptop. However, now a message appears that the charger cannot be determined and the battery will not charge. The battery does not really charge, the laptop works only from the outlet.

I bought a charger from a regional reseller. They say that they can not help in any way cause on the Dell official website indicated the compatibility of the charger with this model laptop Inspiron 5558.

I'm interested in Dell's official response to my problem. Unfortunately, I did not find any email for contact on their website.

Because I paid for it and I want to find out in the end whose fault it is: Dell or the reseller. I bought a product with a clear characteristic: compatibility with Inspiron 5558. In fact, it does not fit.

I can not return it to the seller: the seller refers to the Dell website and says that the adapter is compatible with the laptop.

The Dell website is clearly wrong.

I never buy AC adapters from Dell.

I buy them on eBay using the part number of either the laptop itself or the the part number that is on the AC adapter. Much much cheaper.

I have been very succesful doing this.

New AC adapters. Dell not 3rd-party replacements. From a 99.9% seller.

Since you already have an AC adapter, I am not sure why you simply didn't buy another one of the same?

That isn't the correct adapter - it's for the older systems that used a 7.4 mm barrel.  All the new ones use a smaller 4.5 mm barrel.

This is the correct power supply for your system.

As I wrote before, the Dell website is wrong.

As to why you would buy an AC adapter for the same laptop without consulting the one you already have only you can answer that.
