Not able to install Ubuntu/Linux on Inspiron 7490
I am trying to install Ubuntu on my new Dell Inspiron 14 7490. Many recommended to change the SATA option to AHCI, but the main issue is the bios of my laptop does not have this option.
Does anyone have a solution for this issue?

Welcome to the Dell Community @msorbany
You would need to wait for Dell to come up with some updates to be able to install Ubuntu???
https://www.dell.com/community/Inspiron/Not-able-to-set-SATA-operation-to-AHCI-in-BIOS-Inspiron-7490/td-p/7393794
If that will ever happen your guess is as good as any other???
I am not sure but this may be the beginning of the end to AHCI ???
Best regards and Good Luck,

Hello @msorbany
we are many to have this problem, I give you the links to the other topics related. So much so that I come to believe that Dell doesn't want to update his bios... It's a real shame, because I've been a Dell user for 10 years now, and this is the last time I'll buy one.
I wish you good luck but I advise you to resell your PC if you have to use Ubuntu (or another Linux).
Good day and good luck

You'll have to change the secure boot option in the BIOS to off.
Then you'll be able to install Ubuntu on it.
Hope this helps!
Regards.

I never had problem to install ubuntu on an inspiron laptop. Sometime the install bug and all you have to do is try again. Does it give you an error?

Thanks for your help guys.
I've decided to refund this laptop after many private messages from the Dell support trying to convince me to post the issue on Ubuntu forums as it is not Dell problem, which indicates that Dell is not aware about our concerns.
Moreover, I will use the Ubuntu forums to warn other Linux users to avoid this model as it useless for them.
