Mouse cursor moving on its own

Hi,

I have had a Dell laptop with Windows 10 for a couple of years. Recently I am facing an issue where my cursor would start moving on its own. I get a little control by attaching an external mouse but the movement continues. I updated all my drivers but this didn't solve my issue. I even had my laptop factory reset hoping it would fix it but nothing helped.

Now my keyboard is also causing an issue and would work on and off.

I have the latest windows and drivers updates. I had a keyboard replacement because of faulty keys last year. Visited a dell store and the assistant didn't seem to be sure about the problem and recommend only keyboard replacement. I am not if the problem is just in the keyboard, or in the touchpad or in both because a disabled touchpad makes my laptop work just fine.

Your last sentence would seem to be the obvious diagnostic clue. If the touchpad disabled allows the external mouse to work without problems then the touchpad must be the obvious cause. Replacing the keyboard would have no effect on the touchpad problems. The cure would be to have the touchpad replaced. And no, a driver would have no effect on a hardware issue.

And could you post the exact model number of your system?

Hi, thanks for your reply.

I am still not sure what the glitch is. I once again enabled the touchpad to double-check and right now everything seems to be fine perhaps temporarily. The keyboard is again working fine and so does the touchpad, for now.

My model is Inspiron 3543

Solution:

1. Uninstall the touchpad drivers (appear as ps2)

2.Incase unable to Uninstall the touchpad drivers , disable the touchpad services

I also have the same problem, it's extremely annoying. I fail to lock onto something when aiming my cursor with the mouse. I have my laptop computer (Dell) plugged into my big screen tv and I use a remote mini keypad but don't let that confuse the issue as it's the same with just the laptop itself, I've never heard of this problem before but in trying to resolve it I asked the question and was immediately directed to here (this site) and I now see that I'm not the only one which tells me this is a Dell problem specifically. I've never experienced this problem with any of my past computers like my Samsung or my IBM Thinkpad. I bought it from a guy who owns a used computer shop and when I took it back to him two days after purchase he acted like I was being foolish and he said that this was "normal". Oh yeah...real normal and it's not just that it doesn't always lock on to a grab when it's moving diagonally downward across the screen but when you try to realign it back on target it can cause all sorts of other miseries buy locking onto something you didn't want and jumping the screen and stuff. I really wish I could make it stay still and not move on it's own as is "normal".
