Inspiron 5576 BIOS bug

Trying to disable integrated NIC in BIOS settings, save changes, restart, all is good - no realtek network card in windows device manager.

Shutdown system, power on, boot into windows, network card is there and functional if i plug in the cable.

Booting into BIOS again and hitting F10 only to save setting disables the card again, but only till next shutdown.

BIOS is v.1.0.7 running legacy mode

Sounds like the CR2032 CMOS backup battery is bad and the BIOS is resetting after power down.  The CR2032 battery is supposed to maintain the CMOS (BIOS) memory.

Page 50 in the linked manual details how to replace it.  Looks involved and the same procedure for my 5577.

I don't think so. All settings are preserved, and applied properly on cold boot, except for the NIC disable.

On a second, maybe some USB related settings too, which would explain why it is nightmare getting two left USB ports run at 3.0 speeds...

My 5577 has different BIOS, plus I use UEFI so I can't try it on mine.

to add a few more

-CPU microcode never updated - 3rd party modding tool can recognize this and rebuild BIOS with updated ucode

-realtek network card ROM outdated - can be updated to newer version using the same above mentioned way

-GPU vBIOS TDP is too low, preventing the GPU to operate even at default 1053MHz clock. it downclocks to 840-900MHz

-battery charging settings in BIOS make no difference

-incorrect port mapping of the two USB ports on the left side make them impossible to be used at USB3.0 speedsusb.png

-no hybrid power setting in BIOS to disable the feature (reading other people posts this seems to be one of major annoyances with dell laptops).

i know it can be disabled. i checked bq24780s datasheetbq.png

what does it take for dell to fix these problems? last BIOS update was issued in Feb 2018. can't imagine the reason behind the decision some systems get updates every few months, others don't get it in a years if ever after all
