How to turn off auto brightness adjust for webcam?

Hello, I bought an Inspiron (Windows 10) recently, I'm having issues with the webcam brightness. I have the brightness setting turned all the way up, but when I add more lighting in the room around me the camera brightens for a moment and then darkens. I searched online and found the instruction to uncheck the "automatically adjust color when lighting changes" option, but that function isn't available on my laptop. I also looked at changing the power settings, there isn't an option for it there either. Please help! I need to figure out how to make the lighting brighter, this is a job-related issue for my work from home gig that I need to fix asap! I thought about buying an attachable webcam, but I'm not sure that would fix the issue?

"Everyone who's having this issue should try Windows Update, and if it doesn't help check on specific software such as skype and zoom to change the webcam brightness."

Please try this.

Ive found a solution.

Go to "Skype for Business" (type it in the search bar)

then click the gear/settings icon

go to Video Settings then camera settings and untick the "White Balance" box

then change  the White Balance to something around 3600-3650 (depends on what you want this is what I found works) and change  the backlight comp to 2(maybe 1 or 0)

Can I just say that this solution is the one that works. If you go to Webcam Properties in Skype, that is not actually a Skype settings page, but the master properties for your webcam. I changed the settings in there and they scan through to all other software I use my webcam with (I actually had Zoom open with the webcam displaying through that whilst editing, and the results happen live.

I also recommend unticking Auto on 'Exposure' on the second tab as well

If you don't want to install Skype, then apparently you can do it via install ffmpeg as well, as shown here, but it's exactly the same screen and functionality either way (I saw these instructions, then recognised the screen from this post)

Again - to anyone who has this issue now or in the future - THIS is the fix.

Hi ESL Teacher,

I'm having the exact same issue with my new Dell Inspiron i7. My students keep asking why I keep turning the light off and on. Did you find a solution? I wish Dell would fix this, rather then us having to purchase separate hardware.

I am having a similar issue with the work-issued Dell laptop.  It's clearly a camera driver or settings software bug.  The webcam lighting sensor keeps adjusting the video brightness every few seconds, up and down the scale [from too dark to overexposed], while the light in my room is not changing at all.  It's really annoying to me and others.

I don't think it's the option that you mentioned since that one sounds like something for your display like night time colors, not for the camera.

Dell?

I'm also having this issue. I just bought my laptop (Inspiron 7405 2-in-1) about a month ago and I noticed it when I bought a selfie ring light. I teach virtual Zumba classes, so the lighting for my students is very important so they can see my moves and cueing. But I noticed that whenever I moved, the camera would automatically change the lighting. There aren't any options for the camera or in the power settings to turn it off.

Any updates on this?

I am working with Dell support but no progress so far.  They are asking me to update drivers, a generic move.  I installed the Support Assist software and it ran tests identifying some but not related to the camera.   I am not able to apply these for now since my company constraints my admin rights.  They should be able to point out if and when was this bug fixed.  I have multiple computers and this only occurs no this Dell laptop.

I also have the problem that if there is any backlight, the camera completely under-exposes the video, so nobody can see me. This happens using video calls from within chrome browser.

There must be a way to override the auto brightness function of the camera??

@DELL-Caresplease see the screenshot, that's what I mean. If there is any background light, the webcam is useless..

Same issue here on a Precision 3540 and 3550. The webcam will overexpose and the brightness goes way too high and slowly comes back down. It does this randomly. Working with level 3 support so far has not helped. Has anyone been able to fix the issue?
