Horizontal black lines on whole screen - Inspiron 7306 2n1

Inspiron 7306 2-in-1

Inspiron 7306 2-in-1

I was working on my laptop. It was fine but all of a sudden horizontal black lines appeared on the whole screen. I've also noticed that the laptop was overheating. I was doing some simple tasks and they should not overheat the laptop. The CPU was only using 2-10%. everything was as usual. After some time some part of the screen was turning red. I have updated Graphics Driver and BIOS but they didn't work. After some time it automatically fixed. I would like to know the reason why this happened.

Hello,

Where do you use your laptop ? note that using a laptop on a soft surface like for example a blanket or a tablecloth can cause overheating and you need to find the reason why the laptop is overheating as i suspect that is the cause of those vertical black lines.

Try to run the bist (build in screen test) with the laptop powered of hold down the d key and press the power button does the test run without error messages ?

Horizontal lines on a computer monitor can be caused by overheating or physical damage to the monitor and connecting cables. Conflicts between the screen and selected screen resolution and refresh rate settings can also cause line problems, as can out-of-date device drivers and operating systems.

I updated all drivers and my Windows is up to date. The updates didn't fix the problem. I actually lost hope and all on sudden it became normal.

I use it on my desk. There is no tablecloth. It's made of wood. I also use a cooling pad sometimes when I do CPU-intensive tasks. I did the screen test and there was no issue. Now it's working fine but I am curious about why it happened.

Hello,

Do you have by any chance  an external monitor ? if yes connect it to your laptop then press windows key +p if the same issue appaers on the external monitor to then the problem is probably your GPU and in that case  you are  since you cannot replace the GPU in a laptop.

I've tested it on an external monitor and it's fine on that
