Dell Inspiron 15 battery upgrade

Inspiron 15 3520

Inspiron 15 3520

Service manual has two options

1. 4 cell 54 wh 15vdc

2. 3 cell 41 wh 11.2vdc

Question can I upgrade the 3 cell battery to a 4 cell?

As long as the system does not have a 2.5" SATA drive in it, yes - you will need the battery and likely a new battery cable.

Upgraded finally the battery. Had to change the cable back to stock. The one that came with battery was incompatible. (has excellent health - 7% wear level)

So after upgrading the battery ram speed did not improve  and bios advanced (ram and cpu / performance) features remained hidden.

The only reasoning behind this is that Dell ram gets hot due to higher speed and in order to keep things cool Dell has downclocked ram speed due to insufficient or inadequate cooling capability due to design ventilation restrictions.

Also had to remove the ssd caddy and its cable (came with option to add ssd) to make room for larger battery. Used one of the caddy screws in order to fix the battery in one additional spot.

I doubt if same laptop with an i7 will perform any better unless it has improved ventilation.
