When I was working on my notebook then suddenly the batery light started flashing red and now it is no longer charging. Will I have to buy a new battery or replace my charger?

Access BIOS settings and verify the power input, if the charger is recognized (with wattage).  If it was not, you need to replace the charger.  If it was recognized without any error, you will need to replace the battery.

Very likely that the battery is bad if you can power on the laptop using AC adapter.

Probably Amazon -- no OEM batteries will be available for a system this old, so look for a reputable  supplier of third party units.

Many OEM in the markets are counterfeited (generic battery with Dell labels).  Amazon is a good place to shop as there are many sellers and competition keeping the price low.  A cheaply made battery may not be recognized or not performing well with your laptop.  A good quality battery will be recognized and work well with your device for 1 to 2 years, then gradually failed.  You may want to purchase a new after market (generic) battery being advertised as compatible with warranty support.  Get it from seller that provide full refund if not working and at least 12 months warranty.

@ejn63 I can see some sellers selling the OEM ones but should I buy them?
