Inspiron 660, graphics card upgrade, #2

I have a Dell 660 desktop from @2014. (the big tower) I want to upgrade the graphics card.I already upped the ram to 8 gb and installed a 500 gb ssd. It's an Intel I5-3330 cpu and I haven't checked but I believe it has a 300 watt power supply. I'm running Windows 10. I do not do any gaming just video streaming so I dont need anything high end. Suggestions?

Thanks

You can run older mid range video cards (you might have to buy a used card so beware) but not any of the new high powered cards available now--as you know. They all require a more powerful psu. What card do you have now? Or do you have integrated video? If you already have a discrete card that works fine, maybe skip the upgrade.

PS You do have a 300w psu now according to the original specs. Stick to a Low Profile card for a better fit. See your manual for the specs--

Hi Mary. Thanks for your reply. I'm unsure about the answers to your questions. I'll have to find out. Actually I'm clueless lol. I'm in a learning faze. This was a tower given to me not working. I upgraded the ram and replaced the drive learning along the way. So now Im going to learn about graphics cards and I'll get back to  you with the details.

you talked about video streaming.  if you do not need UHD, a GTX1030/1050 would do.  If you would like to have UHD, get a GTX 1050Ti (4 GB).  PSU recommended 300W.  since you have a mini tower, get full height gpu. 1030 and 1050/1050Ti do not require auxiliary power connector.

To enable Netflix UHD playback, the following is required:

  • NVIDIA Driver version 387.96 or newer driver.  No older GeForce driver will support this functionality at this time
  • NVIDIA Pascal based GPU or newer, GeForce GTX 1050 or greater with minimum 3GB memory
  • HDCP 2.2 capable monitor(s).
  • Microsoft Edge browser or Netflix app from the Windows Store
  • Microsoft Windows 10 Fall Creators Update (10.0.16299 Build 16299 or newer):

  • Approximately 25Mbps (or faster) internet connection.

Hi Mary. In device manager under display adapters it's telling me it has Intel HD graphics which means it's integrated, correct? If there's a benefit to upgrading to a card and changing the power supply I"d like to do that. But if it's not a serious improvement I'll leave it as it is.
