Dell G5000, memory about 2X8GB + 1X16GB

The dell original comes with 1X16Gb 3200Mhz memory, I can not find the same spec in Canada. So I purchased a 2X8GB 3000MHz memory kit. It is i5, dell locks the memory to 2666MHz, but when I installed all memory, it works. but speed goes to 2400MHz, anyone knows why?

For starters, you're not running a matched pair in each bank (slots with matching color retention chips).

Possible the new RAM isn't fully compatible with the original RAM so they "negotiate" the fastest speed where they can work together.

Which slots do you have them in, counting from the CPU?

I used two white and one other, two white with new pair of memory which I bought.

Are the two white slots the 2nd and 4th slots from the CPU?

Known limitation with the motherboard Dell uses in the G5. It doesn't support XMP (which is basically overclocking with increased voltage), so it will run your RAM at the default voltage of 1.2V.

The RAM you bought was listed as 1.35V, wasn't it? if so, it can only attain that 3000MHz on a motherboard that gives it 1.35V, not on the Dell mb which only gives it 1.2V.
