Can I upgrade my Dell XPS (Inspiron 5090) desktop?
Dell G5 5090
When I bought my desktop, I naively assumed that a PC tower could be upgraded. Based on what I have been reading I don't think that I can; my system configuration is:
-- M26M2 INFO,SWSI,DT,STD,INSP,G5,5090
-- CX9M0 ASSY,CHAS,L6,460W,L,G5
-- P31HF PRC,CFL-SR,I5-9400,2.9G,65W,R0
I take that to mean I have a 460W PSU, a 9th gen I5-9400, and a G5 motherboard
I want to run a game that calls for a 12th gen I5-10900 - my graphics card is still acceptable -
Is an upgrade possible? Or do I just buy another PC?

You cannot go from a 9th gen CPU to a 12th gen CPU, the sockets are completely different. If you want a system with a 12th gen CPU then yes, you are going to have to buy a newer PC.
