Image Assist "check image failed" Windows Updates for VMware Drivers

If you connect your VMware reference image to the internet, Windows Updates might install VMware drivers, causing the DIA validation process to fail. Here’s how to clean it up.

Please note: If after an extended time, this driver reappears, this indicates MS has pushed the Windows Update again. The same procedure can be followed for removal.

  1. Disconnect the VM from the internet.
  2. Uninstall the VMware SVGA 3D Driver > Device Manager > System Devices > VMware SVGA 3D > Right Click – Uninstall & check box to delete driver software.
  3. Uninstall the VMware VMCI Bus Device Driver > Device Manager > System Devices > VMware VMCI Bus Device Driver > Right Click – Uninstall & check box to delete driver software.
  4. Delete all .ETL files from c:\windows\logs\windowsupdate & retry running Image Assist.
