IML is the internal name for "reboot". When you change the binfile the box will issue a "fast reboot" of all processors since they have to "rediscover" the new (changed) configuration.
if i were you i would check required flags for each OS connected to this FA, i would not enable it just because they said to do so. What works for one OS may cause issues for another. You can use E-Lab Navigator to get the required flags for each platform.
All recommendations I’ve seen say to reboot the box after enabling flags on the FAs. You can enable that flag just for the hosts the really need it ..using symmask hba_flag command ..but you still need to bounce the box.

symconfigure will FAST-IML the port if needed (but you won't notice a fast-IML with properly configured timeouts on your hosts).

notice it.
Hosts doing active IO most certainly do notice it - at least all of mine do!

If your host notices fast IMLs probably the driver isn't properly configured.
What do you mean by "all of mine do"? What happens when a storage port reboots ?? What OS are you talking about ??

I have several Red Hat Linux hosts that are currently connected to the San but we forgot to set the D bit on the Fa.
What is the impact to the hosts if I enable it on the Fa's after the fact? Do I have to shutdown the servers to make this change?
