Partition creation with Solaris
Hi,
A new solaris 10 sparc server is a connected to a Emc SAN array,
the LUns are seen with "format" command but the partitions cannot
be created with the same command.
We are using the solaris built in Multipathing - (stmsboot -D fp -e) to
enable multipathing to the EMC
Did anyone faced this problem ?
Regards

What are the steps you attempted and the error..?
Can you 'read' from the device..?
What type of device is it...?

Hello Consty,
When you say you cannot create partitions, are you using the format utility? I have seen something similar where a customer could not label a device, but they were using the Autocreate option in the format utility to label devices with EFI labels. The devices were too large and the cyclinder/head count did not match the autocreate option.
Once we went in manually and changed them (still in the format utility and using the prompted defaults) then they were able to proceed. I did advise the customer to verify this with SUN as a solution.
Also there is the possibility that the devices are read protected on the Storage side? An INQ should tell you if the devices are WP:
inq.solar26 -no dots_-et this is also run as part of the grabfile.
Or simply try and dd to one of the devices in question. If you can dd to it, the device is not write protected and your issue is deeper in the device/OS
But if you could upload the steps you are trying and the error message you are getting, it would really help in determining what the issue could be.
I hope this helps,
