New symcli server

Hi ,

Guess this is a silly question....

When we are trying to connect to a new DMX we obviously have to do cabling and zoning to the symcli server and the new DMX. How do you map, mask the vcmdb to this server?

I am asking this because if vcmdb is connected then we can think that it will act as a gate keeper and give the symm access to this server. With no Gate Keeper mapped and masked to the new server how is it going to communicate?

typically VCM is mapped to all FA by your CE. You will use VCM device to communication to the DMX until you map/mask more devices and use them as gatekeepers.

so we just mask vcmdb to our server and start working right? I guess I got it.

Thanks.

If the box is brand new, you will see only the VCM .. its main feature is that it's always visible, regardless of masking in place. Since the VCM is also a GK (at least with recent DMX3/4) you'll automagically see a gatekeeper that you can use to manage your storage.
So if the storage is new, you zone a FA to the server and the server will automagically see the VCM. Via the vcm you mask other devices to the same host or to different hosts ... :D
