With ECC you are working on a representation of the data gathered as presented from the Repository. This allows you to change some things for the display without affecting the underlying components.
With SMC you are working with a GUI which represents the actual state of the hardware. SMC is (for the most part) just a GUI interface into the capabilities of Solutions Enabler, and as such doesn't have the same level of "abstraction layer" that ControlCenter allows.
