How to map a same LUN from old server to new one?

One of my current production Windows server, is having CPU problems and Memory leak, due to which the application is running very slow.

Since the server is very old, we are dumping the entier system, and building a new Windows server. I need to transfer the same LUN on the old server to the new one. Is there a way to map the very same LUN to the new server with out blowing off the data on it. I mean, if I remove the HBA card from the old server and hook it up to the new server, will it work. Please correct me if I am wrong. Or is there any better way to do it. Please let you know, the storage is from new DMX, there is no BCV or anything configured.

Thank You

Rama

yes it is. The new Server is built same like old server, but with New Quad Core Processor, and 8 GB of RAM and rest everything is same. And thanks for the help much appreciated.

moving HBAs to the new server is the easier way. If you are not moving HBAs you will zone new HBAs and replace WWN references in symmask database.. :

symmask -sid 123 -wwn old_wwn replace new_wwn

symmask -sid 123 refresh

rescan is done at boot time, simply re-assign drive letters and you should be back in business. (I assume PowerPath and all that good stuff is alrady pre-loaded on the new server)

yes, move HBAs and bring the system online, all data will be intact. You might have to re-assign drive letter in Disk Management so i suggest you put a label on each disk before you shut the system down, that way it will be easier to recognize them on the new server, for example:

ok, when i bring the new server online, I just have to rscan the new disk and I dont have to create any new file system on it. simply assign a new drive letter to it and its done.

I am not replacing any HBA,......neither i am doing any change on DMX. I am going to do on HOST (Server side).

Physically removing HBA card from OLD Server and attaching the HBA to NEW Server. Will this procedure show the LUN on to the new Server with out whipping off any data on the LUN.
