copy .vmdk files error - parameter incorrect

Hi all,

We have GSX server and I am trying to keep a copy of my virtual machine. When I try to copy I get an error on the *-flat.vmdk and *-flat(2).vmdk files.
All other files are copied no problem. I am trying to copy to a different folder location.

Any ideas as to why I can't copy.

Thank you, Darquise.

before you re-format save any data on it :)

yeah ..reformat with NTFS ..select "quick" format if available.

what OS is GSX running on ? If it's Linux ..try putting quotes around your file name. For example:

cp "Linux VM - flat(2).vmdk" /new/location/

I'm pretty sure VmWare have their own threads .. however can you please post the full command line you are running ?? I'm pretty sure that the error raises from the brackets in filename .. quoting the filename may be enough.

It is running on Windows Server 2003 sp2. The VM is turned off.

Is it possible that it is because i am trying to copy to an external hd drive?

I was just doing a windows copy/paste. I even tried robocopy (with quotes) and got the same error.
