i like to use: symmask -sid 123 -dir all -p all list logins

then i can see which hosts are logged in ..etc.

symmask is good as long as you manage aliases for your wwns :D
And your hpux hosts won't always show as logged on (due to their behaviour).
However symmask is the best command I can think about to find who's talking to the box.

You can give "symcfg -sid xxx -app list" a try .. you can have a list of hosts running various EMC applications and talking to the box itself .. But if an host never issued commands against the box, it won't show in the output. And if an host sent commands in the past but now is connected elsewhere, it will show up again.

Here is an output from the last command:

crmidb0_dr/root> symcfg -app -sid 104 list

A few cautionary points.

1) Assuming you use VCM access for ALL hosts attached to a Symmetrix then dumping the database would be the safest method from the CLI to see everything.

symmaskdb -sid 3525 list database

As Stefano mentioned this means you either use VCM aliases or you have a nice way to map WWN to host names.

2) If you have servers attached directly to an FA port NOT using VCM records there is no easy way to get the host name unless they are running an EMC product and register to show using the symcfg -sid xxx list application command.

Hope this helps a little bit - no magic bullet unless you manage your VCM records.
