Put simply, Boot from SAN is when you configure your host to boot from devices seen through the HBA from one of your storage arrays. Instead of using local disk you can go entirely diskless in the server.

The best docs I can point you to are the Host connectivity guides for each OS. They are very OS specific, so which one to read first depends on your environment.

Also HBA manuals usually have a chapter explaining how to configure the HBA to boot from SAN .. Usually you have to tell the BIOS what WWN and what LUN to boot from.

Good point Stefano!

If you are really interested in setting it up make sure you run your config through the eLab Navigator for all the latest qualifiers.

But definately start with the Host Connectivity Guides and HBA manuals.
