AIX cluster mapping

We have allocated 10 TB storage to a AIX cluster which has a DMX 4 has the backend. We used two FA's 7c:0 and 10c:0. Now due to some performance issues we decided to add two more FA's(04 and 13) other than 7c and 10c. So, my doubt is can i map the existing devices on 7c and 10 c to 4 and 13 when the AIX cluster is up and running. Will there be any impact to the applications. Also do i need to ensure any other things before adding two more FA pair. Is there any need that devices mapped to other FA (4 and 13 ) must have same Lund address as mapped to (7c and 10c). I was thinking it should be a straight forward change(online). Please let me know if i am missing anything.

thanks

You should pose your concern about what impact it would be to the application vendor, as well as the same LUN ID question.. You can make your changes in the background and would allow it, but then once you try to 'bring it in' the host environment, there is no telling what will happen - especially "live." In addition to this, will need to ensure the correct port flags are set to present to this platform, as well as setting appropriate reservation bits on the device for clustering.

Hello Vimad,

You dont mention what multipathing software you are using?

Also the connectivity documents on Support -> Tech Docs and Adviseries -> Host Connectivity -> Aix Host Connectivity Guide may be of some assistance.

Hope this helps

Hi

Yes, you can map,  when the AIX cluster is up and running. There is no impact

Yes, you need to ensure other things before adding FA pair.

Please check these steps into account .

Check the HACMP is configured as per EMC recommendation and EMC software is at supported level and configuration is fine .

1) Set the FA port bit setting compliant to AIX on the new FA ports .

2) Now map the device the to the new FA ports .

3) Mask the device on one node, scan for the device and check additional device paths are visible and follow the same in second node .

4) In active-active cluster for con-current VG the reserv_lock  should be set to NO for the new hdisk paths .If it’s not cocurrent VG, no need to set this attribute .

If you have any fruther query,  you may generate Service request and upload EMC host grab from both cluster nodes for further assistance.

Hi Babus,

Thanks for the suggestions... So, when i do the mapping of devices to the new FA ports do i need to make sure they have the same lun ID's on all the 4 FA ports or is it OK  if i map on the new FA ports with different LUN ID.

If you are using PowerPath it will pick up on the Hdiskpower # so lun address should not matter.  If you are not using PowerPath then I am not sure on the lun #; ideally I would try to make them the same.
