SMM Security Setting

I'm an OSD engineer at the state of MN - MNIT. We are experiencing a problem with several newer Dell models during our automated SCCM BIOS update (Dell Command and Configure 2.4 and 3.1.1). The SMM security setting in the security tab of the BIOS comes enabled by default and we have determined that the enabled setting causes machines to completely freeze during the automated BIOS update. Disabling the setting manually rectifies the issue but unfortunately it can’t be done programmatically. While we can turn the setting on programmatically, we cannot turn it off programmatically so there seems to be a bug with this setting. As you can imagine, we would like to avoid manual intervention on every machine but this non responsive SMM Security Setting is interfering with our efforts to automate. Our automated process was working fine for months until recently.

Do you know if your engineers are aware of this issue?
