Feature Request: Product Documentation File Names in Powerlink
Hello,
Yesterday I downloaded a bunch of documents from the Powerlink site, using the My Downloads functionality.
I was very annoyed when I discovered that after unzipping BatchDownload.zip the file names of the product documents were most unhelpful to me:
This reminded me why I had avoided downloading documentation from Powerlink for such a long time.
What I usually do instead is to download the documentation from the DCTM Download Center, which gives you descriptive file names, like so:
I have looked at the thread titled "Document naming convention" started by Hrvoje Crvelin (http://forums.emc.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=565566򊄾) and although he shares some similar concerns, it is not exactly the same.
My requests are as follows:
1. Please alter the behavior of the My Downloads section of Powerlink so that the uncompressed documentation files will have a more descriptive filename. The filenames from the Download Center are acceptable.
2. Nice to have but not as important: rather than always naming the compressed archive BatchDownload.zip, it would be more useful if the filename could either reflect the contents (e.g., the product name if all the documents were from the same product) and / or the current date and time stamp. This way we would not be forced to change file names if we decided to download several times to the same directory.
Thanks,
JPG.

A change to create more "friendly" file names for the product documentation is in the works. This may be a phased-in change and we may be limited in our ability to rename the files for older versions, but this is indeed something coming.
I'll need to dig in a bit more with regards to the zipped up file name idea.

Dale

Thanks for your reply. Any idea when these changes might be coming down the pike?
