windows defender

I get this message evry time I turn my computer on.  "Application failed to initialize 0x800106ba.  A problem caused Windows Defender Service to stop.  To start the service, restart your computer or search Help and Support.  I found nothing in Help & Support.  Does anyone know what is causing this and how do I fix it?

Windows Defender is a pop up blocking program that comes with Vista and Internet Explorer 7.  It has nothing to do with the BIOS (this forum section).

Microsoft used make that available as a separate program, don't know if it's still available.

Olds855, you should consider reposting in the appropriate operating system forum as that would be the best place in which to receive assistance.

I had this same problem with defender.Micosoft has not come up with a patch yet, that I know of to fix this problem.what I have found that works is uninstalling my security software(mcafee) then reinstalling (mcafee).this worked for me.With me I was unable to open windows defender when I received this error message"Application failed to initialize 0x800106ba".So I uninstalled mcafee then reinstalled mcafee, and this rsolved this problem.Hope this will help you.:emotion-1:

I have Vista 32 and this worked for me.  I tried uninstalling McAfee and reinstalling but didn't work, then I disabled Windows Defender with no other option.  I found a fix that worked for me if you have Vista 32.  Try this:

I've a solution for this..But I am not sure whetehr this is a permanent one..

Open the 'services' window (Start >> Run >> services.msc)

Navigate to Windows defender and double click it then start the service..

Make sure that the 'start up typel is set to 'automatic'..

This can resolve the issue..

Just try it and let me know whether it's working
