What is the Difference between Optiplex and XPS ?

Hello,
I was customizing a desktop, I've noticed that when I choose the same specifications (almost) for Optiplex the price is much less than the price of the same machine with the same specifications but the machine is XPS ?
I tried to get answers from the Online chat of Dell but there was no answer.
So, any one can help me to understand what is really the difference between XPS and Optiplex ?
Thanks!

I haven't looked at the specs or options for either machine.  But, the Optiplex line is intended for business users where the XPS is intended primarily for consumers.  You need to look at everything, the cases and what ports on the cases, power supplies, actual motherboards, ports for expansion cards, warranties, etc.

I have both.

The Optiplex IS a business machine and if you go through the Small business division, I have found they are based in the US and I can understand them.

I also have the XPS 420 with a Q6850 @ 3.0 GHz. I swear the Optiplex is quicker and a lot more stable. My XPS is a toy compared to how the Optiplex is built but a very expensive toy. It rattles, support is really bad and the drivers really are not that good. Check out " Media card reader disappears"  you will read about one issue that could not be solved until a few months back. The best support you will get is from this forum. The Dell people here are excellent.

I have several Dells, I am not slamming them but not too many people have both to compare side by side.

So the real difference is nill. My XPS and my Optiplex are very close in "experience index" ( for what it's worth). I had to put a faster drive in the XPS to get to a 5.9. I put a better video card in the Optiplex to get to a 5.9. I have not tried any benchmark testing.

An IT pro at work put me onto the Optiplex 745 first. So I bought it. I thought I could out do it by getting the XPS 420 but HE KNEW! 4 grand no gain and the Optiplex support is better, the business end of Dell is a very professional group.
