[SOLVED] Optiplex 990 PCI Serial Port VEN_8086 DEV_1C3D SUBSYS_047E1028 WINXP Driver

full pdf instructions: http://pdfcast.org/pdf/solved-optiplex-990-pci-serial-port-ven-8086-dev-1c3d-subsys-047e1028-winxp-driver-pdf

device manager showed a problem with no driver for PCI Serial Port

google search for search for file DRVR_WIN_R298379.EXE

download the file DO NOT INSTALL IT

after download, EXTRACT only, DO NOT INSTALL IT

it comes with a bunch of stuff you dont need, and asks you to install .NET FRAMEWORK

after files are extracted, refresh device mgr, install driver for pci serial port, go to the folder where files were extracted, look in drivers, go in SOL folder

driver will install

repeat for other device "PCI Simple Communications Controller"

now both installed and device mgr is clean, no yellow icons, and nothing installed on computer like .net framework bloat

.NET framework isn't bloat ... it is an application enhancement package made and distributed by Microsoft and is used by many programs ... without it, these programs will not run properly.  Your instructions are fine in THIS case, but users that follow up on this thread should NOT be afraid to install .NET framework.

If the OS is installed with the proper drivers, in the proper order, this will not even be an issue.

.NET framework wasn't an issue before java was dropped from XP etc.

it installs Gigs of patches for 1.0 1.1 2.0. 3.0 3.5 then 4.0.

Definitely not required except for AMD/ATI CCC and a few other "apps" that use it.

Omega drivers in the past used the extract but don't install method for getting ccc installed.
