Power Supply Unit

I have a full size Dell Inspiron 518 that is about 6 years old. Just replaced the hard drive with an OEM from Dell with the same specs, same size as original. The PSU has failed. I swapped it out for a working PSU from another Dell of mine and it worked fine. I do not plan to add anything to this computer in the future-no upgrades. But I do want a reliable PSU and not a HiPro that was OEM and has a bad reputation. Looking at a Corsair Cx 500 builders series and an Antec Earthwatts EA-380D. OEM PSU was 300 watts. Any recommendations between the two or any other that may be appropriate for my needs?

Either the Corsair CX Builders Series, or the Earthwatts will work fine, but my preference would be for the Corsair CX Builders Series.

I've found very few issues with the Corsair brand.

Received the Corsair CX-500 today. Shoehorned it in but I see that there is no cable for the 4 pin CPU connection labeled PWR2 and ATX_CPU. Its a square 4 pin connection and there is none included in all the cabling that comes with this PSU. Do I need to return it or is the power supplied some other way?

The 8 pin connector splits into 2 x 4 pin connectors, either 4 pin connector can be used.

Answer: Corsair power supplies, ship with an 8-pin connector that splits in half. Use half of this connector for the 4-pin EPS/ATX 12v connector on your motherboard.

The CX series is not actually made by corsair.  Stick with the EPS12v certified CS Series.

CS750M is the minimum I recommend based on the 3.3v/5v rails and the +5VSB.The difference between the 550 and the 750 is $20.  The 550 has less power on the 3.3v/5v rails and the +5VSB.

Thanks again Bev. I found it. Just wondering if others cut some of these unnecessary cables. They are very long and it will be a chore to find a place to stuff them !
