Optiplex 790 Mini Tower - Which PCIe Slot For Video Card?
Happy New Year!
As I understand it, the Blue PCIe slot, (Top PCIe Slot), is usually for a Video Card. Correct?
I'd like to install a DVI Video Card, and disable the onboard Graphics. Go into Bios. Correct?
I'd like to also install a Sound Card - Install the new sound card into Slot 2 Mini Slot? I've already occupied Slot 3 with a 1394 Fire Wire Card.
BTW - This new Optiplex Mini Tower has an upgraded 520 Watt Power Supply. But I am NOT a gamer.
Recommendations for a Sound Card, and Graphics Card?

PCI Express x16 (wired as x4) connector (SLOT4)

PCI card connector (SLOT3)

PCI Express x1 connector (SLOT2)
4
PCI Express x16 card connector (SLOT1)
Sound card can be installed in (Slot 2). You can install 2.1/5.1/7.1 sound card in this slot and you have to use compatible speakers to go with it. These are available in the electronics stores or you can search to order online.
For a regular usage you can go any for 512 MB graphic cards.

Sound card can be installed in (Slot 2) < As I mentioned, this slot is already taken with a FW400 card.
I'm looking into slot 3 with an appropriate sound card like this one:

Hi ENIGMACODE,
You can install the sound card in the slot numbered 3. The video card mentioned in the post is compatible and the power supply should be 300 watts and more.

Key is the "MINI TOWER"....you can get away with installing the graphics card in the blue slot.....that leaves you with one slot...depending on size of your graphics card..you should be able to install a sound card.....always check that your "stock" power supply can handle the graphics upgrade...i believe the mini's have a 270W power supply.... hope this helps
