New LCD Screen is Showing Blurry Text

I purchased a Samsung 930b 19" LCD monitor and the text is blurry. In addition, the font size on Internet Explore is huge and background colors are not showing up in anything Microsoft-related (e.g. the right-hand menu in Word). Oddly, web pages are showing up ok in Firefox, except for somewhat blurry text (ghosting) and a green tint to black type.

This is the second LCD monitor that this problem has occurred with (I took the first one back, thinking that the monitor didn't work right).

I've replaced my video card with a PNY GeForce 6200, bought a DVI-D cable and updated drivers for the video card. Resolution is set at 1280x1024 with the refresh rate set at 60. Nothing seems to be working.

Any ideas on what the problem could be? Should I roll back the drivers for both the Monitor and video card and reinstall both or this there another solution?

My system is a Dell 4600 with XP Pro and 512 of ram.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Please post them, as I am running out of ideas.

I did go through this document without sucess.

I also tried removing the drivers by right-clicking on my desktop, selecting properties, and working my through the tabs until I got to the "uninstall drivers" option for both the video card and the monitor. I then reinstalled the drivers, with Norton Antivirus turned off, but have had no success in resolving the problem.

Give me what you have and let's see what happens.

Thanks.

I strongly suggest a proper uninstall of your current video drivers and then a proper install of updated drivers.  This can be done in about 20 minutes using a 16-step process which I will post if you ask.  If you haven't went to those lengths to properly remove/replace drivers, it will be impossible to diagnose your problem easily.

Please let me know if the original video card was an nVidia or ATI, as that affects the steps in this case.

It was a nVidia GeForce card. I believe a 5200 with the ability to broadcast analog and digital signals.

Thanks.

The exact card was a nVidia GeForce FX 5200. I still have this card if you need me to reinstall it. Otherwise, the current video card is also a nVidia card.

You will need to either print these steps or take careful hand notes because email will be unavailable to you once you start
the process.  If at anytime Windows Hardware Configuration or 'Found New Hardware' dialogue automatically starts up, you need
to choose 'Cancel' from it.

(1)  Download [but do NOT install] the 81.95 drivers from nvidia.com .  Store them in a memorable place on your hard drive.
     URL: http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_81.95.html
(2)  Download and install Driver Cleaner Pro v1.2 .
URL: (at bottom of page) http://drivercleaner.net/
(3)  Restart your computer.
(4)  Physically disconnect your computer from the internet -- pull the plug from the ethernet card if you have fast internet.
(5)  Disable temporarily all of your protection programs -- any antivirus or antispyware or antiadware which actively
monitors.
(6)  Using Control Panel | Add Remove Programs, remove the nVidia drivers.  [Do NOT reboot computer afterwards!]
(7)  [Do NOT reboot your computer]  Now run Driver Cleaner, selecting the 'nvidia' removal only.  It takes a couple of
minutes for it to clean.
(8)  Use the View Details button on Driver Cleaner to verify that it removed about 32 products.
(9)  Now you are going to reboot Windows into Safe mode.  The easiest way to do this (in my opinion) is to do:
Start | Run | type there----> msconfig [Enter]    Then on the Boot.INI tab, select SAFEBOOT minimal.
(10)  Now reboot, so that you enter Safe mode.  Run Driver Cleaner again.  Remove nvidia.  It should find and clean a couple
more products.
(11)  Reboot into normal mode for Windows.  You may wish to undo what you did earlier via msconfig, by deselecting safeboot.
(12)  Now that you are in Normal Windows mode, double-click the 81.95 executable to install 81.95 drivers.
(13)  Before you eventually hook back to the internet, be sure to reactivate all your protection software!
(14)  Please post back on your success or failure.  Thanks!

I would 'uninstall' Internet Explorer, reboot, and then install it back.  To do this:
Start | Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs
On the left pane view there is a Windows Components link/
Click on this, it will take a moment for the module shell to load up.
Then uncheck the Internet Explorer line.
Reboot, and download Mozilla or Firefox and see if the same problem occurs.

Made a small improvement, but I'm continuing to have problems. Perhaps I should repeat the process with the Samsung monitor drivers?

I've posted screenshots so you can see what is happening. Not nearly as good as looking at my monitor, but its something.

Let me know what you think the next step should be.

Thanks.

I "uninstalled" IE though the program is still there. I've read that with SP2, IE doesn't get uninstalled.

I updated Firefox and now Mozilla doesn't show any background colors either. A screenshot of what I'm seeing is at:

What is the next step?

I did a system rollback to the earliest possible date and reinstalled the video drivers. I'm still having problems with no signs of improvement.

Help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

HI Chasro:

I wish I'd read this before you went to the kind of trouble you've obviously gone to. I was having similar problems when I installed a new video card a couple of weeks ago. Simply adjusting gamma and screen "temperature" made a world of difference with the monitor.

I then decided on the spur of the moment to buy a new 19" wide-screen monitor and saw new and equally strange text effects. To cut to the chase, I don't think there's anything wrong with your hardware (as evidenced by the fact that you've already returned a monitor with a "problem").

Does the manufacturer provide you with an auto-adjust feature? If so, use it - it will make a world of difference. You can further refine the display by playing with the Red/Blue/Green controls on the monitor and adjusting the screen temperature to your liking. That has corrected all of the fuzzy text and resulted in clear, vivid text and colors on my new monitor (a ViewSonic).

You also need to make sure that the monitor is running in its native resolution. If it's a wide-screen monitor replacing a standard one, you'll need to install the screen drivers that came with it, and I can almost guarantee that manual adjustment will be necessary (my monitor needed to be adjusted to 1440x900 to work optimally).

I hope this helps.

Hmmm... This is perplexing. I notice that you have Windows XP set to "classic" style. Have you tried switching to Windows XP style to see if the colors appear normally?

Resolution is set correctly and I've used auto-adjust.

My biggest problem right now is that background colors do not show up. Yahoo is white on both IE and Firefox. Word opens with white menu bar on the right-side instead of a blue bar.

I've tried rolling back Windows and then running update. No improvment.

I'll give it a shot, though I've had the PC in "classic style" all along without any problems until now.
