monitor stuck in power saving mode

I have a dell dimension 4400 and when I turn my computer on the monitor says power saving mode and the screen goes dark and the monitor light just keeps flashing can anyone help! thanks Sean

I am assuming that you have done the first steps and made sure everything had good tight connections. I always like to disconnect and reconnect during this step ensuring everything goes together well. And I am wandering if the tower is fully powering up, like do the fans kick on, what lights on the tower happen, etc.

thanks for replying yes fan kicks on and lights but still goes to power saving mode
