Installing a new heatsink (Zalman CNPS9700 NT) to replace the original Dell heatsink
Hello:
I'm having a bit of a problem. I am replacing my processor, currently P4 3.2 Ghz. with a Pentium d 3.6 GHZ dual processor. I have the new processor. I have the goo to place between the processor and heatsink. The board I have is a Dell oYC523. I've removed the old heatsink and notice the processor is at an angle and the information with the new heatsink appears to only go on vertically or horizontal. Do I need to order a different heatsink or can I use the Zalman? If I need a different heatsink any recommendations? I know the new processor generates a lot of heat and when I ordered the new heatsink I made certain it was for socket 775.
I would appreciate any assistance as my system is apart right now.
Thanks in advance for your assistance.

runrdav,
If you could supply some system information it would help us do some research for you then we could help you out.
PC model etc...
nevermind figured it out, here is a conversation about your very machine http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/254277-31-upgrading-dell-dimension It doesn't look like you will be able to change your heatsink.

The Dimension 8400 does not support, either the Core 2 Duo or Pentium D, processors only single core P-4 processors will work.
I installed a Zalman 'CNPS7700-Cu' 918gram [2+lbs] copper heatsink, with a 120mm fan, in my 8400 while the installation was not quite as easy, as described HERE, it is still doable and works well.
Hint: You may need to slightly trim the base of the copper cooling fins that could touch the capacitors.
