[Dimension 9150] What RAM and video card to choose?`
Hello all
As you might notice, I've just registered here, but I hope I'll find some clues what to choose.
I've been telling myself for a year now that I need a new computer, but I don't have the money or "real need" of a computer much faster than this one, so it would be great if my Dimension 9150 fom 2005 would live* 1-2 years longer.
*life = movement
Ehm, back to topic.
I've called Swedish Dell support, and the tech support told me that I'm able to upgrade on my own, and gave me the numbers and data I needed to choose parts.
But, as of this beeing a Dell computer, with a special motherboard and power supply, I want to be sure of what I'm buying - if it'll work.
(Just a notice, this is my computer specs, according to Dell online service-tag: http://support.euro.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dim9150/en/sm/specs.htm#wp1053343 )
So, as for RAM, I've found:
- Kingston DDR2 PC5300/667MHz Dell 1GB
- Kingston ValueRAM DDR2 PC5300/667MHz CL5 1GB
As you see one of these are Dell specific, would anyone recommend to buy the Dell-RAM or can I take the cheaper one, that also is "unbuffered" -whatever that is :emotion-5:
The more real problem is what video card to choose, as for now I'm really looking into
- Asus Radeon EAH5570 Silent/DI/1GD2 1GB
But I don't know what I should choose here, i mean, i really want to throw my 128 MB ATI Radeon X300 SE out of the window by now.
In other words, an upgrade would be good here.
And what about the power supply; When i talked to the tech support, he told me that i shouldn't get a video card with need of external power, because the power supply might not support it.
And what about the amount of Watts, should I see that as a problem? (375W)
Another link to my specs: http://support.euro.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dim9150/en/sm/specs.htm#wp1053343
Any help or tips are appreciated.
Thanks
//Mattias
Oh, and sorry for not linking any page with the memories/video card. It's because of that the links I have are from Swedish retailers .. I think it would be better for everyone to find a satisfying link on their own :emotion-15:

I'll try to bump this thread up one time.
Just because I'm planning to call Dell support "tomorrow" (That's in about 12 hours)
