Dimension 84 and WinXp 64 bit
Someone said the computer's hardware was able to run 64 bit but the WinXP Pro software is not.
Will WinXP Pro 64 bit work on this model?
TIA

Unless you do have an EMT64 bit CPU. Some 8400's do have the 6xx series CPU's in them.
Even if you do have a 64 bit CPU, you don'y want to run XP 64. Even Microsoft recommends not running it. Drivers are hard to find and in most cases 64 bit can run applications up to 40% slower than regular XP.

Thanks to everyone for all the help.
This is what Dell says my CPU is;
C3824 PROCESSOR, 80547, PENTIUM 4 PRESCOTT DT, Pentium 4 Prescott DT, 3.0GHZ, 1 MEGB, 800FSB, SKT-T
I have no idea what that says as far as being 64 bit or not.
I'm just [still] trying to find a way for the machine to use all its RAM.
Ugh.
I give up.......:D

The Value should be Family 15, Model 4, Stepping 3 CPUinfo
Use MSINFO to Verify you have an EM64T Processor
The Run window appears.
The System Information window appears.
The Value should be Family 15, Model 4, Stepping 3 CPUinfo.

Fascinating.
It says that on my 8400 but not the 8300 and also on this Inspiron 8200 with a 2.4g cpu.
I'll have to check the other Inspiron 8200 with a 1.8 cpu.
What a handy, informative little window!.......:)
