You will have to close the Hot Sync icon in the system tray (down by the clock) before the Com 1 port will work with another device. You might want to get an AB box to switch back and forth between Aero and Palm. You will need 2 25 to 9 pin adapters for the ends of the cables unless you can find an AB switch that has nine pin connectors on it, which I haven't found. Radio Shack will have everything you will need.

Thanks for your help I tried it. However my computer is still unable to communicate with my Compaq Aero. I still am getting a message saying that com 1 is unavailable. Do you have any more ideas?

Is Com 1 listed in your Device Manager under ports?
Also you might try to disable it in the bios and then re-enable it. Good Luck.
