battery life in wireless keyboard/mouse?

i just hooked up my new wireless keyboard and mouse to my dimension 2400 and it's working wonderfully.  i have a couple of questions though ...

1.  how long do the batteries last in them?  between my daughter and i, our computer is nearly always in use, except during the night when we're sleeping.  :smileyvery-happy:

2.  can i use rechargable batteries for them?

Good alkalines should last about a month in a mouse. You get longer life by parking the mouse on a white or light coloered (non-reflective) surface when not in use - this lets the rodent go to sleep.

Rechargeables work fine, and are cheaper in the long run. Buy NiMn at 1800 MaH or better, and get a quality charger. Have a couple sets, so you always have a charged set ready to go.

Use alakalines for the keyboard - it should go a year or more.

cool ... t hanks for the info.  my old digital camera uses NiMn AAs so i already have eight batteries and a charger.  so i guess i'm good to go.

when the mouse goes to "sleep", will the red light go out completely?  and how long will it take for it to go into that mode?

In it's deepest sleep you might still see an ocaissional flicker. Time needed to go to low power stages depends on model - I've not seen any specific times.
