APC-UPS Takes over COM 1 Can't Hotsync Palm.
On a Dell Dimension 8100 using Windows 2000 Pro I recently installed an APC Back-UPS VS Model BF500BB. After the installation I can no longer Hotsync my Palm IIIxe. It had been working on a serial cable to COM1. Now it cannot communicate with the desktop. Uninstalling and reinstalling Palm software makes no difference. It still shows as COM 1 in use and the Hotsync Error message says something about when the port is available the Hotsync can continue.
The problem seems to be that somehow, and I sure can't seem to find out, the APC-UPS is using COM 1. On trying to reinstall the Palm software is suggests COM 3 is available however my only serial socket is assigned to Com 1.
Any suggestions short of being able to use either the Palm Hotsync or the APC-UPS but not both, would be appreciated.

Right click on a blank spot on the desktop and then Left click on Properties. When the panel comes up click on Screensaver and then click on Power at the bottom of the panel. This brings up the various power settings and one tab (at least in XP) is the UPS. You can enable/disable the UPS interface there.
