Getting around root password expiration - PowerProtect Data Manager

When I was teaching a PowerProtect Data Manager Admin class last week, one of the participants said they were running into a problem with root password expiring on the powerprotect data manager server every 90 days. He felt it was annoying especially in his test bed environment. If you are facing a similar scenario and want to get around that, here is what you have to do.. Simple 2 steps.

Step 1: You need to SSH (as root) to PPDM virtual appliance.

Step 2: Run the command 'sudo chage -M 99999 root'

AND Voila - the root password will not expire every 90 days.

Note: Use Caution while using this command as some environment require changing the password every so often, that frequency could be set in place of 99999 in the above command.

See you all in the next tip!!
